This first album is full of some wonderful melodies and themes.
The paper jacket cover is made from paper that Kazuko Habu (drums & percussion) individually hand painted. Meaning that there are no two identical jackets anywhere in the world. Each jacket has its own unique texture and character.

CICLO means "cycle" in English, which suggests a musical cycle (loop or repeat), a life cycle (linkage of life and recycling). Ciclo is also the name of the man powered tricycle taxi used in Vietnam.
CICLO has revived old European melodies from 500 to 800 years ago (known as European folk music) and refined them into more familiar sounds like jazzwaltz, reggae, etc.
CICLO's unique characteristic as modern minstrels, appears in their use of computers in their musical approach.
However, their use of acoustic sounds plus an impromptu living music philosophy, has helped support and develop their use of computer technology.
Often using a toy or a frying pan as musical their instruments, or their knack of incorporating animal calls and nature themes into their music, means this first album is full of some unique and delightful sounds.

The anxiously anticipated first mini album has been released!

A full "Mini Album" with nine tunes

The use of the clarinet is somehow plaintive, and sometimes often sounds a little out of place.
Having collected melodies that exploit the clarinet's unique character, the themes spontaneously emerge as Choro from Brazil and Musette from France. Using our guest guitarist, Ryoichi Tobisawa who loves Brazilian music, we start a great voyage of music (!?) from Europe to South America. From now, to wherever are we drifting to...?

JAZZ as Vietnamese Music

Like Quyen Van Minh I am in my 40's, but I was born in Japan and he was born in Vietnam. Even though we are in the same generation our early lives were very different. Impressed by the work of such photographers as Kyoichi Sawada, I felt the need to go to Vietnam to discover what was happening in the world. In reality I was too young to be involved and was forced to remain an onlooker. Minh, by contrast was in the middle of the real war. Ironically, he became fascinated by the American jazz he heard on the US Army's radio programs. Minh had the willpower and single mindedness to become a professional jazz player under difficult circumstances - from the time that jazz was the "enemy's music" to the time Vietnam became a socialist country. Not only does Minh play a leading role in the world of Vietnamese jazz, but he also respects his fellow musicians in other traditions. Minh has worked to fuse jazz and traditional music in his compositions - successfully overcoming the difficulties of mixing such different art forms. Although he is keen to play for all the world's people, his first priority remains his Vietnamese audience. This is because he understands that jazz is strongly connected with spiritual freedom. Quyen Van Minh loves his home country and continues to enrich the Vietnamese music scene.
